Identity Theft via fake website forms

Identity Theft via fake website forms

Part 5: 5 phishing tactics threatening UK businesses

In our final phishing series post, we look at phishing emails designed with one purpose in mind: identity theft.

When we receive an email from Facebook, LinkedIn, Amazon or Apple, our initial reaction is to believe it as we trust the source.  Cyber criminals understand the psychology of trust and seek to   exploit it through phishing cons.

It can take less than 5 minutes to create an authentic-looking phishing email linking to a fake form; typically a realistic looking log-in page or eCommerce form.  Unsurprisingly, fake forms are a popular tactic with opportunistic fraudsters.

Fake website form phishing tricks are often used to obtain personal log-in details for committing identity fraud or for purchasing goods with the recipient’s account.

Such emails also seek to fool the recipients into submitting sensitive financial information which cyber criminals use to commit other financial frauds.
